Voices of the River
To celebrate Rivers Day, on Sunday, September 27, I brought Camera Illumina to Jack Poole Plaza alongside the Fraser River in Mission, BC. It was a lovely event that included musical performances by Good Medicine Songs, Sing Out Choir and Lyra as well as educational displays and hands-on activities. I had some lovely interactions with people as they experienced Camera Illumina.

From their website I learned that Good Medicine Songs is “a group of Indigenous and non-Indigenous people who collaborate to create and share bilingual songs in the traditional language of the Stó:lō First Nation, Halq’eméylem, and English. This unique, cross-cultural performing group promotes revitalization of Halq’eméylem, and inspires reconciliation, belonging and unity.” To give you an idea of their sound here is the song The Land is Lonesome for the Language.
